Warehouses and distribution centres are typically large, single-skin steel or metal-clad buildings with high roof areas and low thermal mass. Overnight and during cold weather, the roof and wall surfaces cool rapidly below the dew point, and moisture from the air condenses onto them.
The result is dripping water from the roof — damaging stored goods, packaging and racking, creating slip hazards on floors and promoting mould and corrosion on steelwork. In distribution centres handling sensitive stock, even minor condensation can cause significant losses.
A spray-applied natural cork thermal barrier applied directly to the cold roof and wall surfaces raises their internal surface temperature, reducing the conditions that lead to condensation. It conforms to the existing profile without rigid boards and does not significantly reduce internal clearance.
